Rainmakers

When I lived in Bangkok, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, was deeply beloved by his people. They would say he could “make rain.”

For a long time, I thought this was simply a metaphor—a way of expressing their immense admiration for him. But then I learned the truth: he actually did invent a way to make rain.

Determined to help drought-prone areas of Thailand, King Bhumibol developed a method called cloud-seeding, leading to the creation of the Royal Rainmaking Project. His innovative spirit and dedication to his people were truly extraordinary.

In 2016, King Bhumibol passed away, holding the title of the world’s longest-reigning monarch at the time. Even now, his people carry on his rainmaking project and many of his other legacies with profound love and respect.

When the wildfires broke out in California this month, I couldn’t help but think of King Bhumibol and his ability to “make rain.” While artificial rainmaking isn’t a solution to fires, I found myself wishing—deeply and wholeheartedly—that rain could pour in buckets over the affected areas.

Watching my fellow Americans endure such pain and sorrow was heartbreaking. In moments like these, I’ve learned that while it’s natural to empathize with others’ struggles, our responsibility is to rise up and bring light to the darkness.

For me, art has always been a source of healing. It has the power to inspire hope, evoke emotion, and remind us of our resilience. My Nimbus Collection, inspired by the soft, billowing beauty of nimbus clouds, feels especially significant now. While it can’t conjure rain, it serves as a tribute to the sky’s transformative magic—a symbol of renewal, grace, and beauty.

If you’re seeking a way to carry light through the storm, I invite you to explore the wearable magic of The Nimbus Collection, which showcases extraordinary gemstones while maintaining a focus on an elevated, weightless, elegance.

So much of what I design is rooted in magic and in rising above the darkness—whatever that may look like for each of us. When I create, I channel empathy for the pain but focus on building light. Jewelry, in many ways, becomes a hand to hold through life’s challenges.

(For years, I’ve been sketching hands, striving to perfect that idea.)

For now, let's find healing in the clouds....

Warmly,
Jocelyn

P.S. - A song that resonates deeply with me during times like these is "The Sky and Me". Its lyrics speak of lightness, renewal, and finding freedom.  Here’s an excerpt:

When the world was scary
And the light is hid from the dark
And it felt too much to carry
I remembered what you said to me
Gotta keep your head up
With a heart wide open
When the world was scary
I remembered what you said to me

Once my wings were heavy
Now they feel so light

When I'm way up here
It's hard to hear
All the city noise
Solo hay cielo aqui
Way up high
It's just the sky and me
